Dressing according to body type

What does it really mean when someone is said to have style? Style is a difficult thing to define. Perhaps style means that one has managed to combine different garments into a stylish whole, so that appearance and personality are in balance? After all, it’s not just about the clothes, but the entirety: posture, hairstyle, how one wears the clothes, how one behaves and conducts oneself, how one speaks… A wonderful style presupposes that one accepts their body just as it is and feels at home in their own skin, and in their own clothes.

A fine style is timeless and unaffected by trends. Therefore, don’t follow fashion trends too slavishly, but pick out only what truly interests you – it’s all about consuming sustainably! Once you’ve found a style you’re comfortable with, you don’t need to force yourself to follow “the latest” fashion. And remember – style isn’t bought with money.

I personally believe that when you want to develop your own style, it’s very helpful to know what body shape you have. I’ll explain why below.

Tips according to body shape:

These tools help you get started, and I hope they inspire you to create successful styles. Do you know what happens inside you when your outfit is spot on? You become cheerful, your confidence is at its peak, and the happy mood is guaranteed to spread to others as well. Once you’ve learned the tricks, it’s easy to create stylish effects in the future too. But remember, there’s no right or wrong way. It’s the feeling that counts.

When choosing clothes according to body shape, they fit so much better, and most of the time, you hit the size on the first try. For example, an apple-shaped body would probably feel uncomfortable in a tight hourglass-shaped garment. And if you then try a larger size, it probably wouldn’t fit as well around the shoulders and bust, which also doesn’t make you feel more comfortable right away…

In the video below, I show how to choose the right size. I demonstrate the difference between a too small, too large, and a suitable size. (Video available in English and Finnish):

It’s simply a matter of accepting facts; on a solid foundation, it’s easier to start building a new style. It takes many attempts to find a style you feel comfortable in. Your style will live and be constantly changing. Beauty lies in feeling comfortable in your own style and feeling confident and secure.

Tips and tools!

You get interesting and personal outfits by combining garments in a surprising way. Spend some time on it and think about the details. Try new combinations and play with accessories. And copying others’ styles is allowed!

There are no clear rules. No one can or should decide for anyone else. Not all styles can be defined or named, and there are almost as many styles as there are people on Earth. They can be mixed according to taste. However, remember that in some situations, there are unspoken dress codes (workplaces, cultural differences, different religions, and traditions…).

Learn to see the whole picture – with positive, impartial, and honest eyes. A spot-on style won’t get you far if you behave poorly towards others. In addition to appearance, behavior, posture, and speech inevitably affect how others perceive you.

Worth remembering – you are beautiful just the way you are!

Hugs, Marie
